Description
The well head and adjoining boundary wall, located 1 metre east of Chime Cottage on Church Street in Harlaxton, date from around 1830. Constructed from limestone ashlar, the well head is pentagonal in shape and features chamfered coping. Each corner has a square pier topped with an ogee domed stone canopy and a finial. The boundary wall is made of dwarf brick with half-round stone coping, enclosing the garden of the Old School House and extending approximately 80 metres in length. At the south end, there is a pair of square brick gatepiers. This structure is one of the ornamental features introduced to the village between 1820 and 1840 by Gregory Gregory, the Lord of the Manor of Harlaxton, following the design principles of J.C. Loudon.
