Description

Chestnut Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse, with alterations from the early 19th century and the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone, likely with a brick front, and is mostly rendered. The roof is covered with concrete pantiles, and there are two brick gable stacks. The farmhouse has a plinth, a band at first floor level, cogged eaves, coped gables, and a symmetrical front facade. It is two stories high with garrets, and has a five-window range. The windows generally have segmental heads, and the front features five 16-pane sashes, with four slightly smaller windows below. A central doorcase is made of ashlar, with a flat hood supported by scroll brackets, and it contains a 20th-century half-glazed door with glazing bars and an overlight. Each gable has a single garret window. A two-story rear wing, three windows wide, has a single gable and ridge stacks. The windows are mostly renewed. A lower, two-story lean-to addition is present on one side.
