Description
Sedgebrook Manor House is a manor house built around 1632, later remodeled, likely by Sir John Thorold, around 1716, with additional modifications made in the 18th century. The house was refenestrated in the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a pantile roof. The building has two coped ashlar gable stacks, a plinth, a first-floor band, quoins, a moulded eaves band, and a parapet with small panelled pedestals and finials, along with coped gables. The structure is two storeys plus garrets and has a six-window range in an L-plan layout. The windows are 12-pane glazing bar sashes.
The piano nobile includes a central scrolled cartouche displaying a coat of arms, with a round sundial above it. Flanking this are three large windows with moulded surrounds, aprons, and triangular pediments. The central doorcase features an eared architrave, an enriched frieze, and a broken pediment topped with a mask and finial. The entrance has a 19th-century half-glazed double door and overlight, with three windows on either side that have deeply chamfered surrounds under shallow relieving arches. Each return of the building has a garret window.
Inside, the manor contains a hall with 17th-century panelling and a fireplace, as well as a resited 17th-century fireplace in the dining room. There are also two first-floor rooms that feature 17th-century panelling.
