Description
22 and 24 High Street are estate cottages that have been converted into a house and shop. The building is dated 1819 but incorporates an earlier structure and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. It features coursed squared stone and red brick with pantile roofs, and has two ridge stacks as well as a single side wall and rear wall brick stack. The building is two storeys plus garrets and has a five-window range arranged in a half-H plan.
The windows are primarily two-light sliding sashes with segmental heads and leaded glazing. The central block has three two-light windows, and below these are three round arched openings, with a central three-light window featuring glazing bars. To the right of this window is a boarded door, and to the left is a passageway. The right wing has a stone ground floor with quoins and a chamfered plinth. On the lower floors, there is a late 20th-century window and a two-light window to the garret. The left return has a two-light window on the lower floors to the left. The left wing features a renewed two-light sliding sash on the upper floors, with a late 20th-century single pane window below. The right return has a late 20th-century glazed door and sidelights, with a blank space above.
This building is one of those constructed or altered around 1790 to 1820 by George de Ligne Gregory, who was the Lord of the Manor of Harlaxton.
