Description
No. 10 Brownlow Street, which includes No. 8 Albion Street, is a 17th-century stone building constructed by Thomas Hurst, the founder of Hurst's Almshouses. The building features stone quoins, pantile roofs, and is two stories tall with attics. It has two cambered dormers and a wide eaves cornice, along with three original stone stacks and stone-capped gable ends. The facade has five windows, which mostly have glazing bars, except for a modern bay window that spans both storeys and a modern window above a modern porch and door. A moulded date stone from 1643 displays the initials T. H. and an heraldic ornament resembling a wheel. There is a small extension on the north side with quoins. Inside, the ground floor rooms are well-preserved with 17th-century paneling and original fireplaces. The building's history is well documented, and there is a photograph in the National Monuments Record.
