Description

Church View Cottages, a group of three consecutive houses, date from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. They are constructed with a timber frame and red brick, topped with pantile roofs, with the northeast end featuring a half-hipped design. The cottages are arranged in an L-shape, with a mid-19th century addition in the re-entrant angle. The building stands two storeys high and has a five-bay front that is irregular in appearance.

At the southwest end, there is a panelled door set beneath a shallow segmental head. The northeast window features a sliding sash under a segmental head, followed by a 20th-century casement and a 19th-century fixed light flanked by casements, all under segmental heads. On the first floor, the southwest window has a 19th-century triple fixed light, while the two middle windows have sliding sashes beneath segmental heads.

The timber frame has been encased in brick at various times during the late 18th and 19th centuries. The interior retains four framed bays with intact posts, wall plates, straight braces, and tiebeams. The studded walling of the cross-wall between the original kitchen and hall is also intact. The clasped purlin roof is nearly complete and retains some closed trusses of lath and plaster above a modern inserted ceiling.
