Description

Horseshoe Bridge is a road bridge dating from 1910 to 1912, built over the South Drove Drain. It was designed by L.G. Mouchel and Partners, civil engineers, for the Deeping Fen Trustees. The bridge is constructed using ferro-concrete, specifically the Hennebique System, and is reinforced concrete. It features a single 45-foot span supported on straight-sided abutments. The bridge has concrete parapets with a central 10-panel section flanked by coped piers that incorporate single shallow panels, followed by further panels on either side, culminating in smaller coped piers with shallow panels. The design incorporates a load-bearing capacity of 210 pounds per square foot.
