Description
Spalding High School for Girls is a large mid-18th century house that stands three storeys tall, constructed of brick. It features a moulded stone modillion cornice and a brick parapet adorned with stone panels. The façade has five windows, with the central section projecting forward and one window in moulded stone frames, all hung sashes with glazing bars. The central window on the first floor is topped with a cornice. A prominent porch in Roman Ionic style enhances the entrance, showcasing an elaborate wooden doorcase with a distinctive lintel decorated with modillions and cherubs' heads. The side panels are embellished with a frieze and capitals, and the entrance includes a glazed door. A modern ship weathervane is also present. Inside, the building retains a staircase from the period, along with impressive plaster ceilings and doorcases. The gate piers are made of rusticated stone and topped with ball finials.
