Description

Kingston Cottage Homes comprise a group of four almshouses built in 1905, designed by J B Corby. The buildings are constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, and have fishscale and plain tile roofs featuring decorative ridge tiles, a single ridge stack topped with four decorative pots, and two gable stacks with three decorative pots each (one gable stack has been removed). The design is in a U-shape. The central block is set back and features a lean-to on the ground floor with a central arch over a seat, and flanking four-light mullion square bays, beyond which are further arches over single doorways. The upper floors have two three-light mullion windows, above which is a central ornate curved gable displaying a shield and inscription. Projecting gabled wings are situated to either side, each with a three-light canted bay window with mullions on the ground floor, a four-light mullion window above, and a square panel with a shield above that. The gables have ornate ashlar coping and column kneelers. The side facades each have a single doorway with a moulded ashlar surround.
