Description

The Old Black Lion is a public house located on the north side of Gedney Chapel Gate. It was built in the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof with two gable stacks. The gables are brick coped and tumbled, and the structure is set on a plinth. It has two storeys and five bays, with the central single bay slightly projecting. The central doorway has a 20th-century panelled door and overlight. On either side of the doorway are two 19th-century glazing bar sashes, with five similar sashes above, all of which are slightly larger than the original openings and have segmental heads.
