Description

Granite House is a house dating from approximately 1700, significantly altered in the late 19th century. It is built of colourwashed rendered red brick, with a slate roof and two rear ridge stacks, each with two shafts, plus two lateral stacks. A moulded wooden eaves band and decorative 19th-century bargeboards with pendant finials are present. Brick quoins define the corners, and there is a visible plinth. The west front has two storeys and three bays, with a gabled half-dormer to the south elevation. The west front features outer single projecting gabled bays, with overhanging gables supported on wooden brackets. It contains three cross-glazing-bar sash windows on each floor, the ground floor window on the left being slightly smaller. The three-bay south side features a central projecting gabled bay with a doorway containing a partially glazed door, flanked by single margin sashes. Either side of the doorway are single paired sashes. Three cross-glazing-bar sashes are above, with a single, similar smaller sash in the gable. The windows of the left single bay are set into a recessed panel. Inside, there is an ornate 19th-century staircase.
