Description

The war memorial dates to circa 1918 and is constructed of limestone ashlar with Purbeck marble. It comprises two rectangular steps with squat corner piers that lead to a rectangular base, featuring a marble inscription plaque to the south. Above the base is a rectangular pier with recessed corner pilasters, each having moulded bases and capitals. Marble inscription plaques, with wreaths and draperies above, are set into each side of the pier. An inscribed frieze runs around all four sides, above which are smaller, recessed rectangular piers. The north and south sides of these piers are adorned with downturned swords, while the east and west sides feature downturned torches. The memorial is topped with an urn finial. An iron chain, supported on small ashlar piers, extends around the memorial.
