Description

This is a late 17th-century building on High Street, Heckington, altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It originally consisted of timber and mud construction, later rebuilt with brick and rendered surfaces. The roof is pantiled, with two ridge stacks and a single gable stack. The building is single-storied with attics, and has a six-bay front. A 20th-century door is located to the left, beyond which is a three-light casement window and a two-light sliding sash window. To the right are a further three-light casement window, a 20th-century door, and an Art Deco shop window with a decorative wooden surround. There are two dormers in the roof; one has a two-light casement window with a segmental leaded roof and cheeks, and the other is a 20th-century two-light casement with a flat roof and leaded cheeks. Inside, remains of the original timber frame survive, including bay posts and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The roof is a trapped purlin roof, with some sawn softwood members and larch pole rafters.
