Description
Heckington Hall is a small country house built in the late 1860s for William Little. It features biscuit terracotta facing with ashlar dressings and has a hipped slate roof with lead dressings and a flat roof top. The building is designed in the Carolean revival style, with a double pile plan comprising five by five bays. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a five-window range of cross-windows in moulded stone surrounds supported by projecting brackets. The ground floor has similar windows, and the central entrance consists of a half-glazed door set up a small flight of swept steps, framed by an ashlar surround with pilasters that support an entablature hood. The house includes a plinth, stringcourse, band, and quoins.
The side elevations mirror each other, with the right side featuring a projecting rectangular stone bay and two attic dormers, while the left side has a partially blocked former side doorway and two attic dormers. At the rear, there is a single-storey office range made of stock brick.
Inside, the hall boasts a dogleg staircase with turned balusters and moulded handrails, along with another staircase leading to the attic with a wreathed handrail. The interior also includes six-panel doors, and the front room on the ground floor has a marble fireplace with a cast-iron grate and a mirrored overmantel, complemented by decorative over-doors. Decorative plaster cornices and additional marble fireplaces can be found throughout the house, which remains largely unaltered and showcases a distinctive architectural style.
