Description
The Church of St Peter is the chancel of a former parish church, dating from the 13th century with 19th-century additions. The outline of the rest of the former church is still visible in the churchyard. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. The west front was remodeled in 1862, featuring a pointed central doorway flanked by two lancet windows and an oeil de boeuf above. There is a small stair turret at the north-west corner, topped by a square tiled hipped roof, and a gabled south porch. The church has a 14th-century timber roof with a ridge covered in plain tiles. Inside, there is a decorated octagonal font from the 14th century, an 18th-century altar rail, and a 19th-century west gallery that houses a 19th-century organ. The north window was brought from Scotton Hall in Lincoln in 1933. Notable monuments include a carved marble piece from 1692, a small kneeling figure from 1587, and a medallion portrait from 1745.
