Description
The Garden House at The Pines is a garden house built around 1880. It features a hexagonal plan and is constructed of wood with a thatched roof. The sides are adorned with rustic wood panels that are decorated with split branches and roots. It includes stained glass windows. Inside, there is bench seating and split-branch framing that complements the rattan lining. The door also has split-branch panels. This garden house is a remarkably complete example and is closely associated with The Pines and the former seed warehouse nearby. The site was originally established as a nursery and seedsman by John Sharp around 1830 and was significantly expanded around 1880 for Charles Sharp, who specialized in seeds.
