Description
Fenland House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally built using mud and stud construction, it was clad in brick in Flemish bond during the late 19th century. The house features a half hipped slate roof and has two ridge stacks. It is a single-storey structure with a five-bay front, which includes an off-centre 20th-century door flanked by pairs of plain sash windows with segmental arched heads.
Inside, the house retains three early 18th-century raised and fielded doors, one of which has H and L hinges. The interior also features chamfered girders with run-out stops, a striking Art Nouveau fireplace with a tiled surround, and a softwood roof with a trapped purlin. The tops of the bay posts from the rear wall are visible in the roof space.
