Description

Castle Moat House is an early 19th-century house, with additions from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick and coursed rubble, with a hipped slate roof and single side wall and rear wall stacks. Deep wooden eaves run around the building. The house has a square plan and a symmetrical front elevation featuring a slightly recessed central bay which incorporates a canted porch with cast-iron lattice work and a balcony railing. Stone steps lead to a doorcase with a cornice and pilasters, and a part-glazed 6-panel door. Flanking the porch are mid-19th-century canted bay windows with parapets and plain sashes. Above, a central French window is topped by a cornice, and is flanked by single glazing bar sashes.

Inside, the square hallway features a cornice decorated with lion masks. A notable branching wooden staircase with turned balusters rises from the hallway, giving access to landings on three sides. The principal rooms include reeded and foliate cornices, reeded doorcases with keystones, and 6-panel doors.
