Description

190 and 191 High Street is a shop with offices and a flat above, built between 1896 and 1897. It was designed by William Watkins of Lincoln for Peacock & Willson's Bank. The building features a brick structure with a terracotta front made by Doulton of Lambeth and a slate roof, complete with two side wall stacks that have cornices. It is designed in the Gothic/Renaissance Revival style.

The exterior showcases enriched cornices at the first floor and eaves, along with coped central and side gables and a ramped coped parapet. There are octagonal pilasters, four of which are topped with cupolas. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with those in the central bays featuring ogee heads and those in the flanking bays having rounded heads. The building has three storeys plus attics and consists of four bays.

The ground floor is divided by octagonal pilasters and has two elliptical arched openings. The left opening contains glazed double doors with a fanlight, flanked by glazed flat-headed openings with top lights. Above this, there is a central octagonal pilaster flanked by single two-light windows, and further along, single canted oriel windows with three lights and parapets. Above this section is a central niche with a canopy, flanked by single three-light windows and beyond, single cross casements. At the peak of the gable, there is a central double niche with the date 1896 worked into the pierced crest, accompanied by round-headed windows on either side, all under a common cornice. The gable is finished with an elaborate finial. The interior has not been inspected.
