Description
Oak Cottage is a cottage built in 1736, with later additions from the late 19th century and 20th century. It features a timber frame that is encased in red brick and stock brick. The cottage has a steeply pitched hipped roof with a single ridge stack. The original lobby entrance has been removed. The building is a single storey with a garret and has a three-bay front, where the lower part of the wall is made of 18th-century red brick and the upper part is constructed from 19th-century red and stock brick. There are three 20th-century casement windows of various sizes. To the left, there is a 20th-century extension with a glazed doorway and an additional casement window. A further 20th-century extension is located at the rear. Inside, the timber-framed structure is mostly intact, featuring two rooms divided by a lobby. There is an original very steep staircase with a trap door. The room on the right retains its sill and posts, along with an inglenook fireplace that has a large chamfered beam inscribed with the date '1736'. The room on the left also has a large chamfered beam. The garret rooms have parts of the 18th-century roof exposed, including tie beams and wall plates.
