Description

Roughton Hall is a house built in the mid-18th century. It features red brick in Flemish bond, painted brick, and ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof that has raised stone coped gables and two gable stacks. The building has a T-plan and is three storeys high with a five-bay front that includes a plinth, first and second floor bands, and rusticated quoins.

The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door with a traceried overlight, panelled reveals, and an eared wooden doorcase topped with a segmental dentillated pediment on scrolled brackets. This entrance is flanked by pairs of glazing bar sash windows. On the first floor, there is a central Venetian window with a key block and scrolled brackets, also flanked by pairs of glazing bar sashes. The second floor features a central rusticated Diocletian window with plain brackets, again flanked by pairs of square glazing bar sashes. All windows have moulded sills and splayed flat brick arches.

While an internal inspection has not been possible, previous descriptions noted a carved fireplace surround on the ground floor, a panelled stone fireplace on the first floor, and a staircase with turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and an open string with cut spandrels.
