Description
The Church of St. Edith is a parish church located on Church Lane in North Reston. It is now closed and was largely rebuilt in 1868 by R. T. Withers, incorporating some early medieval materials. The church is constructed from squared greenstone and ironstone rubble, with limestone dressings and slate roofs. It features a nave with a western bellcote, a chancel, and a vestry.
The west window consists of two lights with cusped tracery, while the ashlar bellcote has four lancets at its base and culminates in an octagonal roof. On the north wall, there is a blocked pointed doorway and a pair of two-light pointed windows, with a blank round-headed opening in between. The vestry includes a shouldered doorway and two small lights to the east. The east wall of the chancel has a three-light pointed window with cusped tracery, and the south chancel window features two lights with a quatrefoil above. The south wall of the nave has a two-light cusped window, another blocked round-headed opening, and a gabled pointed doorway.
Inside, the rounded chancel arch has a single square order, with imposts that extend to form a chamfered string course. There is a trefoil-headed doorway leading from the chancel to the vestry. All fittings within the church date from the 19th century.
