Description
Colonial Cottage is a prefabricated bungalow built in 1844-1845. It features a wooden frame with corrugated iron cladding and shallow hipped roofs also made of corrugated iron, topped with ornate iron finials. The building has a rectangular plan and is single-storey, with a continuous verandah around all four sides supported by four wooden poles on each side, all featuring brackets.
The entrance front includes a central doorway with a half-glazed door, flanked by pairs of French windows. The left side has three sets of French windows, while the right side has three two-light casement windows with glazing bars. At the rear, there is a single casement window and an external brick chimney stack.
This bungalow is a rare example of prefabricated construction, likely manufactured by Boulton & Paul for the tropical Empire market.
