Description

The Old Hall is a house dating from the late 15th century, with alterations from the 16th and late 18th centuries. It features a render over red brick with remnants of a timber frame and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of seven bays, with the outer two bays on each side projecting and gabled. The central doorway has a panelled door and a decorative fanlight, flanked by single reeded pilasters that support consoles and a later projecting hood, which is further supported by two piers. On either side of the doorway are three glazing bar sash windows, with seven similar sashes above; the central three bays on the first floor have windows under segmental arches.

Inside, the entrance hall contains re-used 17th-century panelling with a scratched date of 1711, featuring some carved panels and Ionic pilasters. There is a fireplace with a 16th-century bressumer that partially blocks a former larger brick and stone fireplace. The hall and music room each have inglenook fireplaces, with the music room's fireplace featuring broach stops to a chamfered beam. A dog leg staircase has 18th-century turned balusters. Some first-floor rooms include late 18th-century fitted grates, and there are numerous 17th- and 18th-century panelled doors, some with butterfly or L-H hinges, and one with cock's-head hinges. Three posts are visible on the ground floor, and a first-floor room to the right of the doorway has several large posts, tie beams, and curved braces. Another room features a bolection fireplace and a cupboard with fielded panels, fluted pilasters, and a key block.
