Description
Bolingbroke House is a former rectory, now a house, with 18th-century rear elements and a refronting dating from around 1840, attributed to Rev. Bosanquet. The house is constructed of yellow brick and red brick with ashlar dressings, and has slate roofs hidden behind stone battlements. The central three-story section features a semi-octagonal bay with a four-panel door set within an eared stone surround and a cornice. Stone corbels support slightly projecting chimney stacks on the canted sides of the bay. Octagonal dentilated stacks are also present. Glazing bar sash windows are found on the ground and first floors, with rusticated splayed lintels and fluted keystones. The second floor has a central margin light sash, accompanied by smaller glazing bar sashes on the canted sides, all featuring splayed brick arches. The two-story wings have centres with segmentally bowed fronts, and a glazing bar sash to each floor. A two-story canted bay window of six lights, incorporating ribbed mullions, is located on the right-hand side of the front facade. Full-height glazing bar sash windows are present, with the first floor canted out on brackets. The rear wing is of 18th-century red brick, with a brick band and corbelled eaves. The interior includes a stick baluster staircase with a wreathed mahogany handrail, and a domed lantern light over the stairs, along with a flat stair arch with pilasters.
