Description
The barn at Manor Farm, originally the hall of a country house, dates from the early 16th century and has been cut down and altered in the 18th and 20th centuries, with a new roof added in 1904. It is constructed of red brick in English bond with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The building is single storey and originally had a four-bay front, which includes a plinth and one remaining three-light window with a transom. The window has four-centred arched heads, a concave moulded surround, and a drip mould. Another window retains only the ashlar surround, while a third has a drip mould. Two windows feature brick relieving arches. The rear wall has five blocked segmental-headed openings, and at the right-hand end, only a chamfered ashlar eaves course remains, with large 20th-century double doors replacing the original openings. A stepped and coped chimney stack base is located at the right-hand end, along with an overbuilt tumbled gable. This barn represents a small remnant of the house of the Lords Willoughby d'Eresby, which belonged to Sir Harry Vane after the Civil War. The site is moated.
