Description
The Church of St Swithin is a former parish church that is now disused. It was built in the early 19th century on medieval walling and underwent restoration in 1882. The church features a greenstone base with red brick above and ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. It is a single cell structure with a bellcote at the western end. The west wall has a planked doorway with a segmental head, while the side walls each contain a single three-light window with intersecting tracery. The east wall has a similar two-light window, all of which have semi-circular heads. The louvred bellcote is topped with a lead pyramidal roof. The interior has no fittings but retains two white marble wall slabs: one by Turnerelli of London from 1776, dedicated to Sarah Parkinson, and another from 1846 by Rayson of Horncastle. The church is currently in a state of dereliction.
