Description

The Town Hall, built in 1854 by architect Pearson Bellamy, is an elaborate three-storey building constructed of stone and brick. The ground floor features rusticated stonework with a plinth. The central doorway is flanked by paired Ionic half-columns and topped with an entablature that includes a fleur-de-lys motif. Above the round-arched inner doorway, which displays a female mask and the date, a cornice supports a balustraded balcony.

There are seven windows on the façade, all with balustraded balconies on consoles, except for the central window above the doorway. These windows have stone architraves connected by strings. The upper floor features similar windows, but they are adorned with semi-circular pediments and moulded keystones above their arched heads, each consisting of four lights. The building is capped with a large cornice and a balustraded balcony that is decorated with six urns. The upper floors are made of brick and include carved rusticated quoins.

At the heads of the first-floor windows, there are foliated circles connected by a band. The side elevation is irregular, showcasing some vermiculated rustication and three bay windows. A figure of Justice is positioned on the first floor. The Town Hall, along with Nos 33 to 39 (odd), Louth Centenary Methodist Church, and Nos 2 and 4 Nichol Hill, forms a cohesive group.
