Description
A group of five table tombs located at the Church of St. Mary, 10 metres northeast of the chancel, are dedicated to members of the Tunnard family and date from 1719 to 1815. They are made of limestone ashlar. The earliest tomb is for Samuel Tunnard, featuring a flat top, corner balusters, and a side inscription panel. Next is the tomb of Coney Tunnard, who died in 1736 and was the builder of Frampton Hall; it has a fluted and gabled top with recessed corner balusters and side inscription panels. The more elaborate tomb for Richard Tunnard, who died in 1761, includes scrolled consoles at the angles, egg and dart surrounds to the inscription panels, and acanthus swags. The tomb of John Tunnard, who died in 1781, has a flat top, paired corner balusters, and raised and fielded panels. Finally, the tomb of Thomas Tunnard, who died in 1815, is designed in the Greek style, featuring recessed fluted angle pillars and fan-shaped spandrels around the inscription panels.
