Description

No. 4 South Square is a house, now used as offices, built in 1809. It features a red brick exterior with stucco dressings and a Welsh slate roof, which has two gable stacks.

The building has three storeys and a five-bay front. At the base, there is a short stone plinth, and both the ground and first floors have stucco sill bands. The deep overhanging soffit is panelled and supported by paired brackets. The entrance is accessed by three steps and consists of a door with eight carved panels, topped by a plain fanlight that contains a glazed lamp. This door is set within a round-arched grooved surround and features a shallow open pedimented doorcase supported by Tuscan columns. Flanking the entrance are two plain sash windows.

On the first floor, there are five tall glazing bar sash windows, while the second floor has five smaller windows of a similar style. All the windows are topped with flat rubbed brick wedge arches. The interior has not been inspected.
