Description

The Grove is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier and has undergone extensive alterations over the years, with its facade dating from around 1900. The exterior is roughcast and features a main block with two bays and a central tall window that illuminates the staircase. The entrance door is located to the right and is sheltered by a wooden bracketed porch. Above the entrance, there are two upper windows, which are sash windows, and below is a three-light wooden mullion and transom window. To the right, there is a lower section that includes a four-centred arched doorway and a mullion and transom window, both adorned with hoodmoulds.

Inside, the house has a timber roof with three main trusses visible, one of which has a curved principal and collar. The south wall of the main block is timbered in panels with brick infill. In the kitchen, there is a large beam with a roll moulded chamfer. The drawing room features an ornate plaster ceiling from around 1820 and window shutters with tracery panels.

The main entrance hall boasts a grained wood staircase and a panelled archway leading to the rear of the house. There are also well-crafted internal six-panel doors. The stair window is double glazed and decorated with a sinuous art-nouveau style pattern made of brass strips and glass beads between the panes. The dining room includes a large inglenook with grained wood panelling and integral benches from around 1900. Additionally, there are two panels that now serve as shutters, made of moulded wood in an Italian style from the 1820s to 1840s, which are reputed to be part of a set illustrating the four seasons, originally from Coleorton Hall.
