Description

This Methodist church and attached parish room was built in 1909 and extended around 1925, designed by Withers & Meredith. It is constructed of red brick with half-timbered gables, ashlar dressings, and a plain tile roof. A square bellcote with a pyramidal copper roof sits atop the building. The church’s nave features internal gabled transepts and a projecting eastern porch. The eastern facade displays a projecting, buttressed porch with an ashlar coped parapet and double, part-glazed doors. An inscription on the ashlar lintel reads "WESLEYAN CHURCH 1909." Above the entrance are single, two-light windows. The gable above is half-timbered with pebble-dashed infill and contains a large, central, six-light panel tracery window. The south front has two, three-light panel tracery windows under segmental arches. A slightly projecting gabled transept is positioned to the right, while a large, five-light panel tracery window under a four-centred arch is to the left. The transept has brick pilaster buttresses and a pebble-dashed front. The west front features a single, five-light panel tracery window under a segmental arch. Adjoining this is a projecting church room wing with a double hipped roof and three, two-light casement windows. The north front has a large gable to the church hall (on the left) with a central, graduated, five-light panel tracery window in a half-timbered gable. To the right is a plank door and a two-light casement window. The west return has a single, three-light panel tracery window under a segmental arch. The south front of the church hall features three, three-light windows. The interior retains original features, including pews, a pulpit, an altar rail, dado panelling, and good contemporary stained glass. Sliding panelled doors lead to the church hall, and the boarded roof displays exposed decorative roof trusses.
