Description
Old Hall Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1690. It is constructed of brick with vitreous headers, a chamfered stone plinth, flush stone quoins, stone gable copings, a plain blue tile roof, and a brick chimney. The house follows a U-shaped plan, with a later extension set back to the left. It is two storeys and has an attic, with three bays, the outer bays being gabled and projecting. These projecting bays have high transoms and 20th-century horizontal glazing bars. The attic windows are smaller, 2-light casements of a similar style, without transoms. The windows were formerly leaded and have painted stone wedge lintels with keyblocks. Traces of narrow, blocked windows are visible flanking the central window and in the inner returns of the gabled bays. The central doorway has a 19th-century door with a pair of arched glazed panels within a rusticated stone surround, painted with a voussoir head and cornice, similar to the doorcase at No. 2 Clements Gate. A 19th-century single-storey brick extension is set back to the left. Inside, the front ground floor room of the right wing has ovolo-moulded cross beams. Original 6-panel doors are within architrave frames on the main floors, and older board doors lead to the attic. The staircase in the left wing crosses the window openings and features a roll-moulded handrail and stick balusters, some of which have been renewed.
