Description
The Holly Bush Inn is a public house dating back to the 17th century, with significant rebuilding and extensions occurring in the late 18th and 19th centuries and further alterations in the 20th century. The central bay retains timber framing with diagonal braces and brick infill, all whitewashed. The remainder of the building was reconstructed in whitewashed brick. The roof was re-tiled in the 20th century, maintaining the original pitch, and a brick chimney shaft was added to the right. The inn is one storey and an attic, comprising three bays. Windows are irregular, with wooden casements; the left bay has a two-light window on the ground floor and a single light below the eaves, while the right bays have three-light lower windows and 20th-century two-light casements in flat-roofed dormers. A ground floor window on the right retains hooks for shutters and shows a segmental head indicating a former, narrower window. A 20th-century door is located between the left bays. The left gable end has a 20th-century two-light ground floor casement and a horizontal sash window in the attic. The right gable has a 20th-century flat-roofed extension. Rear extensions, also flat-roofed and dating to the 20th century, are present alongside a wing that incorporates a 19th-century outbuilding. Inside, the original principal rafters are still visible, although the tie beams have been cut and the collars moved. A wind-brace is present in the right bay, and the original stack has been removed.
