Description

The Lock-up and Pound in Breedon-on-the-Hill is a structure likely dating from the 18th century. It is built from rubble stone and features a circular lock-up with a conical stone roof topped by a wrought iron weathervane with a later cock finial. The lock-up has an old board and stud door that includes a pierced metal grille and long strap hinges, and it has no windows. To the left of the lock-up is an irregularly shaped pound with walls approximately 2 meters high, finished with dressed stone coping. Incorporated into the wall facing the street is a fragment of moulded 12th-century masonry adorned with dogtooth ornament. There is also a 20th-century wooden gate.
