Description
No 16 Dennis Street is a cottage that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It has a timber-framed structure with red brick infill, and part of the facade has been reclad in red brick. The roof is tiled and features end and off-centre chimneys. Inside the west gable, you can see exposed queen posts, a collar, and a tie-beam. The cottage is 1½ storeys high and approximately 2 bays in length.
On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century canted bay shop window with a cornice, a small fixed light, and a large three-light casement window from the late 18th or early 19th century, all of which have glazing bars. Above, there are two dormers, one of which is gabled, with small casement windows, the eastern one also featuring glazing bars. A plank door is set in a segmental arched recess. At the rear, there is a semi-circular projection that contains a staircase, and the rear cross wing has a 19th-century brick facade.
