Description
Welby Grange is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations that may have involved rebuilding in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and features an artificial graded slate roof, with brick end stacks on stone bases. The building has a T-shaped plan and is two stories high, with a three-window range. The main front faces south towards the garden and includes a central double-leaf, part-glazed door that was originally a window. This door has a stone surround that retains the jambs, head, and hood mould of the original ovolo-moulded stone mullion window. The ground and first floors have two-light casement windows with similar stone surrounds, although the first-floor windows do not have hood moulds. The farmhouse features a chamfered plinth, moulded stone eaves, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. At the rear center, there is a full-height wing that includes a casement window and a 20th-century porch with a glazed lean-to roof.
