Description

The Roman Catholic Church of St John was built in 1840, with architectural contributions attributed to either E J Willson or Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a tiled roof in the Decorated style. The church has a gable end facing the street, complete with a bellcote and angle buttresses. A stone string course runs above the central door, and the central window is flanked by blind, ogee arched niches. Inside, there is a rear gallery and a delicate chancel screen. The church is part of a group with Nos 35 to 45 (odd), which are buildings of local interest.
