Description

The property comprises a pair of houses constructed as a seminary in 1798, originally accompanied by a detached Roman Catholic chapel to the west. They are built of coursed ironstone with slate roofs. The houses are two storeys with a dormer attic, each of three bays. Both houses feature porches symmetrically placed on their eastern sides. The Priest's House has early 20th-century casement windows, while the Presbytery has 19th-century horned sash windows with glazing bars; the upper left window is now a late 20th-century casement. The gabled roof has three hipped dormers lit by casements, with internal gable-end stacks and a ridge stack to the left of centre. The rear elevation includes a cross wing to the north and ground-floor outshuts. A brick extension to the rear of the Presbytery connects the house to the chapel. The chapel is a rectangular, single-story building of ironstone with a Cumberland slate roof. It has two arched, two-light Y tracery windows to the north and south, a coved eaves cornice below a gabled roof, and a doorway at the west end. A bell cote is situated at the gable head. The chapel is disused and its interior is not accessible.
