Description
The building is a house, dating to the early 17th century. It was altered in the early 19th century, refaced in the late 19th century, and extended in 1910. It is constructed of coursed and squared ironstone with limestone ashlar dressings and has slate roofs. The roof has bands, coped gables, two valley stacks, two lateral stacks and a single gable stack.
The house is two storeys plus attics, with four bays on the south garden front, which features a recessed centre flanked by single two-storey canted wings, all with coped parapets. The central doorway has a moulded ashlar surround, overlight, flat hood and a 20th-century glazed door. Above the door is a sash window with a basket arched head, flanked by smaller sashes. The wings each have basket arched sashes flanked by smaller sashes on both floors. Above, there are three gabled dormers with plain sashes. To the right is a recessed bay with a 20th-century door, and a sash window on each floor.
The north side has a plain 19th-century door flanked to the right by a small sash. Above this is a large ogee-headed sash, flanked by a sash and a late 19th-century canted oriel window. To the left is a late 19th-century two-storey set-back addition with a casement and a sash window. Above it is a sash flanked by smaller sashes. The return angle has a canted parapeted bay window with three sashes with oval heads. Above this is a sash, and above again a smaller sash. The west end has a 1910 two-storey canted balustraded addition, two bays, with a central splayed opening containing a basket arched sash, a door with overlight, and sashes to either side on each floor – a triple sash and a single sash. Above the addition is a double mullioned casement. The left gable has a sash window, and the right gable has a 19th-century canted bay window. Two datestones are set above, inscribed 'G P 1611' and 'CEH LFH 1910'.
