Description

Somerby House Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 18th century and has had mid and late 19th century and 20th century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of coursed and squared ironstone and brick, with limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. It features coped gables and four coped stone gable stacks. The house has two storeys plus attics and is laid out in a T-plan with four bays.

The east front has, on the right, a glazing bar sash window flanked to the left by a larger triple sash and to the right by a plain sash, all of which have keystoned splayed heads. Above these, there are four plain sashes of various sizes, all with keystoned splayed heads. Above again, there are three slate-hung gabled dormers, each containing a two-light casement.

The north front features a gabled wing to the left, with a full-width lean-to porch that has a 20th century door flanked by single glazing bar sashes. Beyond this, to the left, is a slotted casement, and above it is a small garret casement. The rear wing's north wall has an off-centre panelled door, flanked to the left by a 19th century casement and to the right by a sash window. Above, there are two plain sashes, all with keystoned heads. The return angle to the left has a full-width lean-to porch, with a door to the right and two casements to the left. Above, there are two small sashes.

On the south gable, there are two sashes, and above them, to the left, is a similar sash. Above this, there is a smaller sash for the garret. All these sashes have keystoned heads. Beyond, to the left, there is a set-back rear wing with a sash window, and above it, a gabled dormer. Further left, there is a two-storey flat-roofed 20th century addition. The return angle has a door to the left and a three-light mullioned casement with a hood mould to the right. Above, there are two small sashes.
