Description
The Old Post Office and adjoining outbuilding are two cottages, now combined into a single house. The core of the building dates to the early 17th century, but it was raised and altered in the late 18th century, with further changes made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The construction is of coursed and squared ironstone, along with brick, featuring limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. A single coped gable, brick band to the first floor, and single coped stone gable and brick stacks are prominent features. The building has a two-story, three-bay layout, forming an L-shape. The north front has a 19th-century doorway situated slightly to the left of centre, with plain wood jambs and a door consisting of six vertical panels. It is flanked by two-light casements. A 2-light sliding sash window is to the right of the door, and another gabled wing is to the right again, featuring a 2-light sliding sash. All windows have segmental heads. Above, there are two two-light sliding sashes, and the gable has a 2-light casement. The return angle has a two-light casement. The south west end includes a 20th-century porch and a 19th-century hipped, single-story outbuilding, with a door and a casement window. Above the outbuilding is a central two-light sliding sash. The rear elevation has a 20th-century flat-roofed porch, flanked by sliding sashes and a casement window. Above are two sliding sashes and two casement windows.
