Description

Lower Farm is a 17th-century farmhouse, later altered and extended, situated on Pipe Lane in Twycross. The original building is timber-framed and sits on a stone plinth, with painted brick infill panels. Painted brick additions and a plain tile roof contribute to the exterior, along with painted brick ridge stacks positioned centrally and to the right. The original farmhouse follows a two-bay end-entry plan. The roof was raised in the 19th century, evidenced by two tiers of rectangular panels and one surviving brace. The windows are generally casements; one is located on the first floor to the left, with others on the ground floor, one to the left and one to the right of centre. A door is positioned to the right. A 19th-century extension is present to the right, featuring two ground-floor casements to the left and centre, and a first-floor casement to the right. A 20th-century door is located on the right-hand side. Inside, original cross-frames remain, including roof trusses, with more exposed framing visible in the rear wall.
