Description
Church Farmhouse, now a house, largely dates to the 15th and 16th centuries, although the outer walls were rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. It has a timber-frame core of cruck construction, with red brick outer walls and a thatched roof, featuring a brick ridge stack. The farmhouse follows a two-bay baffle-entry plan, which has been extended at both ends. It is one storey high with an attic. The front elevation has three window openings; the ground floor has segment-headed casements, and the attic has casements whose eaves line is arched over by the thatch. A 19th-century half-glazed door is situated to the right, sheltered by a 20th-century thatched porch, with a fire window to its left. A single-bay brick extension, with a plain tile roof, was added in the 19th century to the left, and a single-bay extension with a thatched roof was added in the 20th century to the right. Internally, there are three full cruck trusses which define two bays of the house. It also features spine beams with wide chamfers, and large open fireplaces with similar mantel beams.
