Description
This is an early 19th century house that has been extended in the mid to late 20th century. The house is constructed of red brick with banded stucco at ground floor level and stucco detailing, topped with a tiled hipped roof. The principal elevation faces south and is rectangular in plan.
The south-facing front, along Church Walk, is three storeys high with four bays, following the curve of the walk. It features twelve sash windows, four to each floor, with eight-over-two panes – the lower floors having frosted lower panes. The ground floor is stuccoed with channelled rustication, and incorporates stucco lintels and keystones above the windows. A plat band and cornice in stucco run above the ground floor windows. A decorative timber doorcase is set between the first and second bays of the ground floor, featuring a rectangular fanlight flanked by Doric columns and a triglyph frieze incorporating gothic quatrefoils. The first and second floors have four windows each, each set within a stucco panel stretching between a lower cornice and a string course at the second-floor sill level. A flat-roofed extension, built in the 1960s or 1970s and constructed of pink-brown brick, is located at the eastern end of this elevation, and features five simple sash windows resembling those of the main building – three at the first floor level, and two at ground floor. A simple panelled door is located in the westernmost bay.
The west elevation, facing Station Road, is also stuccoed at ground floor level with channelled rustication, featuring stucco lintels and keystones above the two ground floor windows. A large bay window extends down into the line of the stucco at first-floor level, with simple moulding at its base and cornice at the top. The plat band and string course continue on this elevation. Above the bay window are two sash windows, more widely spaced than at ground level, with stucco surrounds.
The eastern elevation is dominated by the late 20th century extension, which is two storeys high along Church Walk, but only one storey high behind, and has a flat roof. There are five windows at ground floor level, and two above.
