Description

The Church of St. Giles is a parish church located on Barlestone Church Road. The chancel dates back to the 14th century, while the rest of the church was rebuilt between 1854 and 1855 by Benjamin Ferry. It is constructed from randomly coursed Mount Sorrel stone with sandstone ashlar dressings and features plain tiled roofs and a half-timbered porch. The church comprises a western tower, nave, aisles, chancel, and a south porch.

The two-stage tower has angled buttresses on the first stage only, a chamfered offset leading to the belfry, and a hipped roof. The belfry stage includes two light openings with ogee heads. The west wall features two lancets with cusped heads and quatrefoils. The north aisle has a central three-light window with ogee heads and a four-centred arched opening, flanked by similar two-light windows. There is another similar window at the east end of the aisle. The chancel has a 19th-century three-light window in the Decorated Geometric style. On the south side of the chancel, there is a 15th-century two-light window with ogee heads and a rectangular surround, along with a similar three-light window. The south aisle contains a two-light east window and single two-light and three-light south windows, mirroring the north aisle.

The half-timbered south porch features a 19th-century south doorway. Inside, the church has three-bay nave arcades with pointed chamfered arches and octagonal columns, along with a matching chancel arch. All interior fittings, including the pulpit and font, are from the 19th century.
