Description
The Retreat is a house built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped slate roof with two chimneys and overhanging eaves supported by paired brackets. The building has a plinth and is 2½ storeys high.
The west front is symmetrical with three bays. The central doorway has a moulded doorcase and a flat hood supported by brackets. The door itself is a raised and fielded six-panel design with a traceried overlight above. On either side of the doorway are single glazing-bar sash windows, each with painted flat arches and keystones. Above the doorway, there are three similar windows, with the central window being narrower. There are also three smaller, similar windows above these. At the rear, there is a long brick wing extending to the east.
