Description

The Swinford War Memorial is a First World War memorial, built around 1920. It is made from polished pink granite and is situated in the southeast corner of All Saints Churchyard. The memorial features a wheel-head cross with a tapering shaft and a plinth that has a single-stepped base. The plinth is inscribed with incised and gilded lettering.

The main inscription reads: ‘TO THE GLORY OF GOD / 1914-1918 / IN HONOURED MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO / LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR’, followed by the names of the fallen, and the phrase ‘THEY DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE’. On the west face, there is an additional inscription ‘1939-1945’, along with two names.
