Description

Carpenters House is a cottage dating back to 1603, although it was largely rebuilt in the 18th century, specifically in 1728, and raised in height around 1800. The construction is primarily red brick with a Welsh slate roof, featuring a brick central stack and a brick coped gable. A brick band runs horizontally across the façade. The windows are two-storey, with two three-light casements on each floor, those on the ground floor also having top lights, all with cambered lintels. A central doorway, also with a brick lintel and keystone, provides access to a four-panelled, part-glazed door. A wall post is visible on the rear two-storey wing, which has a rubble stone plinth.

The doorway keystone is inscribed with the initials 'T.I.S. 1728 W.C.: S.P.'. Inside, it is said there is a beam inscribed 'T.A. : E.A. 1603'. The cottage sits adjacent to Cleveland Cottage and No. 2 Manor Cottages.
