Description
Hillbrook House is a house dating to circa 1835. It is constructed of Flemish bond red brick, with a Welsh slate roof featuring gabled ends and brick dentil eaves, and brick gable end stacks. The house has a double-depth plan with a central entrance between two principal front rooms.
The west front is symmetrical, presenting three windows and is two storeys and a loft in height. It features 19th-century sash windows with 12 panes on the ground floor and 9 panes on the first floor, flat brick arches, and stuccoed reveals. The central doorway has a reeded pilaster doorcase, panelled reveals, a small canopy/cornice, a traceried rectangular fanlight, and a later 19th-century panelled door.
The north side has 19th-century metal-frame casements with glazing bars, and a small loft door in a round arch within the gable, with a Phoenix fire insurance plaque situated below. The south side features a 20th-century conservatory.
The property includes later 19th-century cast-iron front garden area railings with ornate finials, gate piers, and a gate, all resting on a brick plinth. The interior was not inspected. The group value of the house resides in its architectural detail and intact setting.
